The University of Texas-Pan American is initiating the Student Leadership Program, designed to produce the next generation of leaders in Texas.
The program will open in the fall of 2001 and will be targeted to a select number of University entering freshmen that want to develop their leadership skills throughout their college career.
Program participants will attend leadership classes, be assigned mentors and participate in community service projects and internships. Each participant in the program will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
To qualify, student applicants must demonstrate leadership ability, meet the qualification criteria for admission to UTPA, have earned a "B" or better in their high school college-track curriculum, meet the TASP requirements (or be TASP exempt), and be able to speak or be willing to learn a second language.
