The University of Texas-Pan American will host the first "Walk of Excellence" 5K walk-a-thon Saturday, May 5 at the new UTPA-Edinburg baseball stadium.
Registration is at 7:30 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m.
Early bird registration is $15, and entry forms must be postmarked by Monday, April 30. Walkers may also register on the day of the event for a $20 entrance fee.
Walkers will complete a 3.5-mile walk around the campus, beginning and ending at the stadium. Afterward, a "Close-out Rally" will be held at the stadium with food and drinks and student organization information booths. Campus tours will also be available.
The "Walk of Excellence" is sponsored by the UTPA Development Office to raise money for the Greater University Fund and promote the involvement of student organizations and the community.
Walk-a-thon participants will include members of more than 80 University student organizations who will obtain individual pledges and corporate sponsorships from the public and local businesses. Participating student organizations will receive a percentage of the money they raise, and the five raising the most money per capita win a cash prize.
UTPA faculty, staff, students, event sponsors and the public are invited to participate in the event. Walkers will receive a "Walk of Excellence" t-shirt, free food and drinks.
For an entry form, visit the University Development Center in the International Trade and Technology Center, Room 1.210, or contact Alice McMurry at 956/318-5305 or e-mail at email@example.com.
