Walt Disney World College Program recruiters were at The University of Texas-Pan American Thursday, April 12 to entice students to become part of the “Disney Magic.”
Two information sessions at the Engineering Building explained the internship program that recruits more than 20 UTPA students per semester. UTPA alumna Jeannie Sordo (BA ’00), currently a casting marketing coordinator at the theme park, spoke about her experiences.

She spoke about her experiences there during two theme park recruitment sessions for interested students April 12 at UTPA. Joining her are, from left, Maritza Vela, sophomore communications major (Disney spring 2000 participant); Amira Trevino, junior Spanish major (Disney fall 2000 participant); and Lisette Aveitua, senior international business major (Disney spring and summer 1999 participant).|
“It is very important to do an internship and get your foot in the door,” Sordo said. “I think this is a great opportunity to get to work with the (Mickey) Mouse.”
This is the fifth year the Disney Company has visited the campus to recruit students for summer, fall and spring assignments. This semester, the company will recruit for two periods: August through January and May through January.
Other UTPA students who have participated in the Disney program also were on hand to offer their insight.
Maritza Vela, a sophomore communications major, participated last spring and said it was a fun, educational experience worth returning for.
“It was just the most amazing experience of my life,” Vela said. “Everything happens there, and you get to be a part of it. You are part of that magic.”
The Walt Disney World College Program offers students the chance to learn about the entertainment and hospitality industry at the Disney University, live in furnished apartments and earn money while working at one of the four parks.
Requirements include being a full- or part-time student at least 18 years old in good academic standing. It is open to all majors.
