The University of Texas-Pan American University Gallery will open a new art exhibition, “Divine Humility, Jesus Icons in Contemporary Mexico at the Millennium,” from Sept. 15 to Oct. 27.
The free exhibition, located in the gallery of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building, features photographs by Robert Lewis. It is curated by Sam Yates and organized by the Art Museum of the University of Memphis and C. Kermit Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture at the University of Tennessee.
Lewis will give a slide lecture at the Oct. 12 at noon at the University, with a same-day reception from 7-9 p.m. at the gallery.
Lewis, a photographer and University of Memphis art professor, has traveled and photographed in Mexico for the past 15 years. His exhibit concentrates on omnipresent Jesus icons and the integration of Christ and death in daily life.
