McALLEN – Dr. David Vassberg, retired professor of history, is scheduled to speak on “The Rise and Fall of Stockholm, Texas; A Swedish Colony on the Rio Grande” at the next Faculty Forum at noon Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Tower Club in McAllen, 200 S. 10th St., Suite 1700.

Vassberg, who taught history at UTPA for 28 years, is writing the history of Stockholm, Texas.

Vassberg will tell the fascinating story of a thriving Swedish farming settlement in eastern Hidalgo County in the early 20th century. Within a generation, however, the Swedish colony disintegrated, its people scattered, and Stockholm became a ghost town.

The Faculty Forum is part of a series sponsored by the UT Pan American Alumni Association. Tickets are $12.50 per person and include a complete lunch.
