EDINBURG – There is still time to register for spring classes at The University of Texas-Pan American, but time is running out.
Telephone, web and on-line registration will be held January 6-11. The spring semester begins January 18.
For the first time in recent memory, the university will not hold arena registration, so students must enroll for classes during the regular ASSIST registration period.
ASSIST, or Advanced Services for Student Information Supported by Technology, provides students access to general, academic and financial information from home or various locations on campus. It is a secure system that eliminates the need for in-person registration.
Juniors, seniors, specials, graduates, special graduates and doctoral students may use ASSIST to register beginning Thursday, Jan. 6, followed by sophomores Jan. 7 and freshmen Jan. 8.
Students may register by calling 956-381-3000, visiting the university’s Web site at http://www.assist.panam.edu or going on line at telnet panam1.panam.edu (hit return, then at USERNAME type: ia_prreg) A PIN number is required to access ASSIST.
If you do not have a PIN number, contact the office of Admissions and Records at UTPA at 381-2206 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The office will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31. PIN numbers for returning students are their birth dates. For example 030575 is the PIN for a person born March 5, 1975.
The ASSIST phone line and Web site are operational from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Computer labs in the Academic Services Building also will be available for registration Jan. 6-11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The payment due date for registering during this time period or for dropping and adding courses is Jan. 12. To pay with cash, check, money order Visa, MasterCard or Discover, visit the Student Services Building Room 115.
Additional payment substations will be set up Jan. 3-4, 10-11 and 12 in the library lobby, the athletic department ticket booth and the Communication/Arts/Science (CAS) Building drama ticket booth. Office/substation hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
ASSIST also enables students to check their account balance or pay with MasterCard or Visa. Students may call 381-3030, visit the Web site (assist.panam.edu) or stop by kiosk stations located throughout the UTPA campus.
Beginning Jan. 18, there will be a $5 fee per dropped class. A full refund for withdrawals will be accepted through Jan. 14.
