EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Dance Ensemble will be conducting auditions to take in new dancers on Sept. 2 from 7-10 p.m. in the Health and Physical Education 2 building, room 133 at UTPA.
No advance preparation is needed for the audition. All dance sequences will be taught during the audition session. Those auditioning should dress to dance, and bare feet are required.
The dance studio will be open beginning at 6:30 p.m. the night of auditions for dancers who wish to come early for extra personal warm-up time. The audition is open to all UTPA students.
Those accepted into the dance company are required to register for two semester hours of university credit each fall and Spring semester they dance in the company. Registration involves additional tuition and fees, payable upon registration.
The UTPA Dance Ensemble is a student dance company under the direction of Laura Grabowski, lecturer in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, and is the only continuing local dance company which focuses primarily on contemporary or modern dance.
The company’s repertory can include dances in the modern dance, ballet, and jazz dance forms. Training in all company will begin its regular rehearsals on Sept. 6, eight hours weekly, Mondays and Thursdays from 6-10 p.m.
All new dancers will need to complete registration and fee payments for the fall semester by Sept. 12.
