"We expect about 70 school districts from throughout the state and a few from other parts of the country coming in to hire our student teachers," said Enedelia P. Kidd, director of the UTPA Office of Placement and Cooperative Education. "This is a perfect opportunity for those student teachers who haven’t signed contracts yet or are still looking for employment in the fall."
She said the Teacher Job Fair is open to anyone, including currently employed teachers, who wants to interview with the school districts.
"Many of the districts also will be giving out information about the field of education and their districts, so students who haven’t decided if they want to be teachers — freshmen, sophomores and juniors — should also attend," she said.
Fifty-five schools, school districts and education service centers have confirmed their participation in the Teacher Job Fair, including the Alice, Alief, Angleton, Arlington, Austin, Beeville, Brownsville, Bryan, Corpus Christi, Cypress-Fairbanks, Dallas, Dayton, Denton, Donna, Edinburg, Galena Park, Galveston, Garland, Goose Creek, Gregory-Portland, Harlandale, Harlingen and Hurst-Euless-Bedford school districts
Also the Irving, Judson, La Joya, Lamar, Lufkin, Lyford, Mansfield, Mathis, McAllen, Mission, Pasadena, Pleasanton, Port Arthur, Progreso, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, Raymondville, Rice, Rio Grande City, San Antonio, San Felipe Del Rio, South Texas, Spring, Tuloso-Midway, United, Valley View, Victoria, Weslaco, Wichita Falls and Windham school districts, Region I Education Service Center, Region III ESC and Greenhill School.
