EDINBURG —The University of Texas-Pan American will be celebrating Work Study Appreciation Week April 5-9 as part of National Student Employment Week.
The week will include supervisor and student employee workshops, the “Big Bash,” an awards luncheon and Work-Study Day. This year’s celebration theme will be “Experience Work-Study .... Hollywood Style!”
“During this week, we are basically taking time out to show our appreciation to the more than 800 work-study students employed here at the university,” said Eva Salinas-Nava, work-study coordinator at UTPA. “This also gives students and employees a chance to understand what exactly the Work-Study program is all about.”
According to Nava, Monday and Wednesday will offer a variety of useful and informative supervisor and student assistant workshops. Tuesday will offer the “Big Bash.” which includes Hollywood-themed decorations, fun and games in the University Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Free pizza and soft drinks along with games and door prizes, contests and fun, will be available at the “Big Bash” on Tuesday.
Nava said the awards luncheon for nominated Work-Study employees will be held on Thursday.
“Friday will be reserved to give university departments the opportunity to celebrate in their own offices and show their student assistants how much they are valued,” Nava said.
