LAREDO—Manuel Inman, Texas-Pan American's golf star from Mexico who qualified for the U.S. Amateur last summer, captured the Border Olympics by one stroke after closing with a 4-under-par 68.
Inman's triumph came Saturday at the Laredo Country Club Final complete results became available Monday from GolfStat.
Inman's 74-70-68 for a 212 total bested the runner-up, Chris Forbes of Texas Arlington, by a stroke. Forbes shot 73-69-71.
Baylor took the team title at 874, six strokes ahead of Texas-Arlington and eight ahead of the third-place University of Texas at Austin. Texas A&M was fourth at 888 in the 18-team field.
UTPA finished seventh at 896, beating UTSA, Arkansas, Sam Houston State, Michigan State, Kent, Southwest Texas State, Washington State, Rice, Central Oklahoma, Stephen F. Austin and Texas Tech.
Inman, a UTPA senior who grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico, led his closest teammate by 14 strokes. Toby Grubert finished at 226, Luis Arechiga 227, James Aleman 231 and Albert Moncada 243. --30--
