UTPA students to be included in 1999 ‘Who’s Who’

Twenty-four students from The University of Texas-Pan American have been selected to be included into the 1999 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Students are named to the annual directory based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. The publication includes the top students from more than 1,900 institutions of higher learning throughout the United States and several foreign countries.

UTPA students selected were Loyda Dynnet Ake, a biology major and senior from McAllen; Valeska Balderas, pre-med junior from Sullivan City; Fernando L. Barreto, finance junior from McAllen; Rosalinda Carrizales, management senior from Alamo; Juan Antonio Contreras, biology senior from Edinburg; Vanessa Escobar Curl, communication disorders graduate student from McAllen; Yvette DeLaRosa, nursing graduate student from Harlingen; Sonia Dominguez, kinesiology senior from Alamo; Margaret H. Fernandez, nursing graduate student from Pharr; Melissa Garcia, English senior from Edinburg; Rebecca Garza, Spanish graduate student from Edinburg; and Roel Gonzalez, pre-dental junior from Edinburg.

Other UT Pan American students to be recognized in the publication are Philip Joseph Grossweiler, educational administration graduate student from Mission; Dominique Halaby, business administration graduate student from Brownsville; Holly Dawn Hewlett, history junior from Mission; Jeffrey Jay Huerta, psychology junior from McAllen; Joe J. Lara, communication senior from Pharr; Blanca E. Leal, philosophy senior from McAllen; Roberto Moreno, biology senior from Weslaco; Amanda Elaine Propst, communication senior from Edinburg; Julia A. Soper, nursing graduate student from Edinburg; Karen E. Taplay, nursing graduate student from McAllen; Ronaldo A. Villarreal, education graduate student from Edinburg; and Kimberly K. Wernecke, marketing senior from McAllen.
