EDINBURG — The University of Texas-Pan American English Language Institute as of Jan. 11 will be occupying 12 classrooms in the former Lamar Elementary School building located on the north side of the UTPA campus.
“We’ve always had a little bit of trouble finding classroom space at the beginning of semesters,” said Dr. Kelly Guiterrez, ELI program coordinator. “This is definitely going to alleviate the problem of locating space.”
Guiterrez said the new space includes 12 classrooms and one teacher resource center, but the ELI offices will remain in Building E.
ELI offers English language courses for international students seeking admission into universities.
According to Guiterrez, ELI currently offers services to 100 full-time students and 350 part-time students from 25 different countries, who attend classes during the evening and on Saturdays.
