This year’s conference is titled "Bridges in Mathematics" and will include discussions focusing on strengthening partnerships between the elementary, secondary and post-secondary education systems, and between education and industry/business.
Keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Ken Jones, director of the Partnership for Professional Development at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
The plenary session will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium beginning at 8 a.m., with individual sessions scheduled throughout the day in the Engineering Building, Science Building, Education Building and Mathematics Building. The general closing session will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium from 3:10 to 4 p.m.
The RGVCTM is one of the largest affiliates of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, with a membership of more than 1,000 educators from Region I. The group holds a conference annually to bring together its members and outstanding educators from Texas and other states. According to conference organizers, last year’s attendance of more than 1,200 led to the selection of UT Pan American as the site for this year’s meeting — the conference has outgrown the capacity of any secondary school building in the Valley.
On-site registration will be in the Engineering Building lobby starting at 7:30 a.m. Registration costs $40 and includes a box lunch and a year’s membership to RGVCTM.
