The five-year project is designed to increase the number of qualified rehabilitation counselors assisting people with disabilities, said Dr. Bruce Reed, coordinator of the Rehabilitative Services Program at UTPA.
According to Reed, six students will be assisted each year with tuition and fees as well as $800 a month living expenses.
Students are obligated to work in an approved agency for two years after graduation for each year they receive support.
The following master’s degree students have been selected as the first scholarship recipients: Natalie Andrade, Brownsville; Terry De La Fuente, Pharr; Estela Garcia, Julie Garza and Marisol Garcia Tello, all from McAllen; and Suzanne Milford from Edinburg.
