Festivities for Diez y Seis de Septiembre at The University of Texas-Pan American are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the University Center Circle.

A Tejano group, The Hometown Boys, are scheduled to provide music for the celebration and several student organizations will sponsor food booths.

The holiday from Mexico celebrates the day Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a village priest, gave a speech in 1810 that sparked the war of independence from Spain.

Activities for HOLA Week, a welcome back celebration for students, faculty and staff, originally scheduled for the week of Sept. 7, tentatively have been rescheduled, weather permitting, for the week of Sept. 21. The activities will include a Student Services Fair and Leisure Day indoor and outdoor games.
