"The Emergency Loan is set up to help students who have trouble meeting the tuition and fee deadline," said Chriselda Castilla, student loan officer. "This loan is due in one payment. During the fall, it’s due on Nov. 1."
Applications will be available beginning July 21 in the Student Loan Collections Office in room 214 of the Marialice Shary Shivers Administration Building. Applications for Emergency Loans may not be mailed.
There is a $15 non-refundable processing fee, which must be paid at the Office of Payments and Collections in room 115 of the Student Services Building.
Students and prospective students who plan to use an Emergency Loan to pay fall tuition and fees must complete the application and return it between July 21 and Aug. 13 to the Student Loan Collections Office with a photo ID and a receipt showing payment of the processing fee.
Emergency Loans are available each semester or summer session, but only during the processing periods or until funds are exhausted, whichever occurs first. It is a revolving loan fund; payments on loans are used to make new loans. The $15 processing fee is needed to cover the costs of maintaining records, processing loan applications and collecting outstanding loans.
The purpose of the Emergency Loan program is to provide students an alternative other than cash payment for tuition and fee costs to attend UT Pan American each semester. Students must not be on financial aid or must have exhausted all their financial aid for the purpose of paying tuition and fees to qualify for this loan. Students who are in default on any federal or institutional student loan or who have any outstanding debt to the university other than current tuition and fees are ineligible for an Emergency Loan.
Emergency Loans will pay only for mandatory fees — the student service fee, computer access fee, international education fee, registration fee, library technology fee, medical service fee and tuition. Incidental fees, such as lab fees, drop fees and parking permit fees, are the responsibility of the student.
