The College of Education at The University of Texas-Pan American will distribute bar codes May 11-15 to current and former students planning to take the June administration of the teacher certification exam, the ExCET.

The bar codes will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 232 of the Education Complex.

A bar code is required to register for the ExCET if an individual is not already a certified teacher. To pick up their bar code, students and former students must bring a completed ExCET registration form; a review session certificate; a deficiency plan, if applicable; a current transcript; approval from the department if seeking secondary certification; a check or money order for $72 (for the test registration fee); and a stamped registration envelope. UT Pan American will attach the bar code and mail the application. The application and supporting documents may be turned in by someone other than the applicant.

Certified teachers wishing to add a certification in an additional field do not need a bar code. In this case, “certification by exam” is marked on the ExCET application.

Those who attended an institution other than UT Pan American must contact that institution to receive a bar code.

The next administration of the ExCET will be June 13.

One of the requirements for registration for the ExCET is attendance at an ExCET Review Session. A number of review sessions have been scheduled for late April and early May. For more information on ExCET registration or bar codes or for a list of ExCET Review Session dates and times, call Martha Harrison, ExCET improvement coordinator at UT Pan American, at 381-3405.
