UTPA community enjoys new campus fitness center
More than 1,600 students, faculty and staff started the fall 2007 semester with a workout at the new state-of-the-art Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex (WRSC) that opened its doors Monday, Aug, 27 at The University of Texas-Pan American. Hours of operation for the $26 million facility, located on the corner of Sugar Road and Schunior Street, will be from 6 a.m.- 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturdays, and noon to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

New conference helps sophomores start the school year prepared
More than 100 second-year students at The University of Texas-Pan American participated in the first sophomore conference Tuesday, Aug. 21. The conference titled "The Second Lap: Extreme Sophomore Experience" featured a balance of academic, financial and personal/social presentations throughout the daylong conference.


UTPA honored with Brillante Award for excellence in higher education
The University of Texas-Pan American was the recent recipient of the most prestigious honor granted by National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), which recognizes the contributions of exemplary individuals to the Hispanic community.

Toyota to bring Partner Robot to HESTEC Community Day Sept. 29
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. will join this year's Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week Sept. 24-29 at The University of Texas-Pan American and bring its best musician – a 4 foot, 9 inch tall, 88-pound, trumpet-playing robot to excite students about the possibilities in the fields of science and technology.

Summer commencement set for Aug. 18
The University of Texas-Pan American will hold its summer 2007 commencement ceremonies for more than 600 prospective graduates Saturday, Aug. 18 at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Two ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and noon featuring 476 candidates for bachelor’s degrees, and 157 candidates for master’s degrees.

Local Border Patrol Sector thanks UTPA staff for recruitment assistance
The University of Texas-Pan American was recognized recently by the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the University's assistance in recruitment efforts, which helped rank them as one of the top two sectors in the nation in applicants to the agency this past year.
