UTPA graduate receives $5,000 scholarship to attend medical school
Daisy Gracia of Brownsville, a May 2007 graduate of The University of Texas-Pan American, was recently awarded a $5,000 Texas Medical Association Minority Scholarship. Gracia, who majored in biology and double minored in chemistry and Spanish, was one of eight students chosen to receive the scholarship from the Texas Medical Association (TMA).


Regional middle school Science Bowl winners at UTPA head to national competition
Sixteen teams of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from South Texas middle schools converged on The University of Texas-Pan American campus April 28 to participate in the regional level of the National Science Bowl competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and Office of Minority Programs.

UTPA Creative Writing Institute June 11-15 to host award-winning author
Students, faculty, staff and community members with an interest in creative writing will have an opportunity to learn from nationally prominent poet/author Thomas Centolella during the annual Creative Writing Institute June 11-15 hosted by the Department of English at The University of Texas-Pan American.
