UTPA’s Project Lead student scholars kick off program participation in summer institute
The development of future educational leaders for the Rio Grande Valley was the focus of the first Educational Leadership Summer Institute held May 25-26 for the initial cohort of 34 student scholars in Project Lead, an innovative program to certify new school administrators developed by a consortium of The University of Texas-Pan American and eight Valley public school districts.


UTPA alumni to start an Austin/Central Texas chapter
Alumni of Texas’ 10th largest university – The University of Texas-Pan American – are organizing a local chapter for residents of Austin and Central Texas. The UTPA Alumni Association will host their initial Austin/Central Texas organizational meeting 3-6 p.m., Saturday, June 24 at the Nuevo Leon Restaurant, 1501 E. Sixth Street in Austin.

New endowment to promote certification in strength and conditioning for UTPA kinesiology students
A new endowment established by Dr. Juan Gonzalez, visiting professor in the College of Education’s Department of Health and Kinesiology at The University of Texas-Pan American, was announced recently by the UTPA Development Office. The endowment will establish the Dr. Juan Gonzalez National Strength and Conditioning Examination Endowed Scholarship for kinesiology majors at UTPA.

Four institutions of The University of Texas System have formed the Borderplex Health Council, a new partnership promoting education and research to address the health challenges of the South Texas Border Region.


Theresa Bailey now leads the UTPA Office of Research and Sponsored Projects
Theresa Bailey, most recently director of the Office of Research Services at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee since 2003, was chosen November 2005 as the newest director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects at The University of Texas-Pan American.
