UTPA’s first May minimester rates well with students, faculty
Results from a survey conducted at the end of the first May minimester or mini-term offered at The University of Texas-Pan American May 10-27 indicated enrollment exceeded administration expectations and the majority of the faculty and student respondents would teach or take a minimester format course again.

Shell Oil continues support of UTPA Tex PREP program
Representatives from Shell Oil presented The University of Texas-Pan American with a $5,000 check from the Shell Oil Foundation during a visit to the campus June 30 continuing their past support of the University’s Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program (Tex PREP). Shell has been one of Tex PREP’s sponsors since 1997.

UTPA Mini Baja team places in top 25 in Midwest competition
Engineering talent and teamwork – not wings – allowed “Pegasus,” one of the two Mini Baja vehicles from The University of Texas-Pan American, to “fly” to 25th place recently in the 2004 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Midwest Mini Baja Competition in Milwaukee, Wis. The other UTPA team vehicle, named “Centaur,” placed 92nd out of the 137 national and international teams competing June 3-6.

UTPA Oracle project team celebrates CRM going “live”
Sporting bright yellow shirts and cheered on by Bucky the Bronc, members of the Customer Resource Management (CRM) team of the Oracle Implementation Project at The University of Texas-Pan American flipped a ceremonial switch June 21 declaring their portion now “live” or operational.

Representatives from Texas Instruments (TI) were recently on The University of Texas-Pan American campus to extend their full support for this year’s Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week (HESTEC) during a two-day visit with HESTEC organizers.
