Rwandan humanitarian headlines UTPA speaker series
Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and the general public packed The University of Texas-Pan American Fine Arts Auditorium Jan. 30 to hear from Paul Rusesabagina, famed humanitarian from Rwanda, Africa, who has been internationally-honored for saving more than 1,000 civilians during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.


UTPA honors Valley Teachers of the Year
Forty-six teachers named as 2007 Teachers of the Year from 24 Rio Grande Valley school districts were honored Jan. 23 during the third annual Teachers of the Year Awards banquet sponsored by The University of Texas-Pan American College of Education and the UTPA Division of Enrollment and Student Services.

Ballet Folklórico continues ALEGRIA 2007-2008 series
The Ballet Folklórico at The University of Texas-Pan American, under the artistic direction of Francisco Muñoz, will continue its annual concert series ALEGRIA 2007-2008 on Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 2-3 at 2 p.m., Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m., and Feb. 9-10 at 2 p.m.

Community invited to UTPA Homecoming events
The University of Texas-Pan American will kick off its 2008 Homecoming Week Jan. 28 with a number of fun-filled activities for students, alumni and the community that will culminate on Saturday, Feb. 2, with a tailgate and reunion party and the UTPA men’s and women’s basketball games.

UTPA students meet with UT Austin Law School dean
Pre-law students, including participants in The University of Texas-Pan American's Law School Preparation Institute (LSPI), had an opportunity to meet Lawrence Sager, dean of The University of Texas at Austin Law School, Jan. 17 at the UTPA Social and Behavioral Sciences Building.


UTPA Police search for aggravated robbery suspect
The University of Texas-Pan American Police Department is requesting assistance from the public to help apprehend a suspect wanted for an aggravated robbery, which occurred on the campus Thursday, Jan. 17.

The University of Texas-Pan American will continue its 2007-2008 Distinguished Speakers Series on Wednesday, Jan. 30 with the appearance of Paul Rusesabagina, famed humanitarian from Rwanda, Africa, who has been internationally honored for saving more than 1,000 civilians during the 1994 genocide that occurred in his native country.

Recent UTPA graduate will represent U.S. in international advertising competition
Franco Caballero, a recent graduate in communication from The University of Texas-Pan American and a copywriter at Bromley Communications in San Antonio, is taking the advertising world by storm.
