Accreditation peer review team completes UTPA visit
The University of Texas-Pan American came one step closer this month to the end of its three year-long process of reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges.


University moves spring graduation to new McAllen Convention Center
This spring semester, The University of Texas-Pan American will be changing the venue for the commencement exercises, scheduled for Saturday, May 12, from the UTPA Fieldhouse to the new McAllen Convention Center, located on South Ware Road and Expressway 83.

Inaugural Borderlands Symposium to be held May 1
In an effort to educate the Rio Grande Valley community about local people of historical significance the College of Education at The University of Texas-Pan American will launch the Borderlands Symposium May 1.

UTPA to host French Competition and Recruitment Fair April 28
The mood of the day will be "Vive la France" at the annual French Competition and Recruitment Fair scheduled for 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, April 28 at The University of Texas-Pan American.


University to celebrate the life of a former Bronc player April 28
During a commemorative ceremony on Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m., UTPA will honor the life and memory of Jody Ramsey, a former baseball player for then-Pan American University, who died in a tragic accident in 1973. The ceremony will take place at the former location of Jody Ramsey Memorial Stadium located behind the UTPA Fieldhouse and where the UTPA Education Complex currently resides.

Students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas-Pan American took some time in between classes Thursday, April 19 to remember the lives lost in the Virginia Tech tragedy during a solemn memorial service at the Quad.

Students at The University of Texas-Pan American join other universities across the nation in mourning the deaths of the students and faculty who lost their lives in the Virginia Tech tragedy with a memorial service in their honor Thursday, April 19, at noon on the the Quad.


Regional high school science bowl winners at UTPA head to D.C. for national competition
The South Texas Regional Science Bowl championship team was honored at a luncheon recently by The University of Texas-Pan American, which coordinates the regional competition.

UTPA’s United to Serve project planned for April 21 at Edinburg World Birding Center
The Edinburg World Birding Center will benefit from a project organized by The University of Texas-Pan American as part of a University of Texas System-wide initiative titled United to Serve, held each year in honor of National Volunteer Week, this year April 15-21.

UTPA provost appoints two new college deans
The University of Texas-Pan American Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Paul Sale officially announced today the appointments of Dr. Bruce Reed as the dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services and Dr. Salvador Hector Ochoa as the dean of the College of Education.


"Rule of Law in Mexico and the Border" final topic for UTPA speaker series
The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) at The University of Texas-Pan American will host the third speaker in its spring 2007 Global Security Studies and Leadership Speaker Series Thursday, April 19, 7:30-9 p.m. in the UTPA Education Complex, Room 1.102.

As The University of Texas-Pan American approaches the end of the years-long process of the reaffirmation of its accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges, a major component of that multi-faceted process – a Quality Enhancement Plan or QEP – will be under review when SACS officials visit the campus April 16-19.

Student organization brings bone marrow donor awareness to campus
Jesse Solis, a freshman nursing student at The University of Texas-Pan American, said he only wanted "to do the right thing" after handing a swab of his inner cheek to a volunteer at a bone marrow drive at the campus March 30.

Six faculty members from The University of Texas-Pan American were recognized with the eighth annual Provost&rspuo;s Awards for Latin American Studies during a luncheon held April 4 as part of Pan American Days’ week of events April 2-6 at the University.
