International Women's Board "decks the Student Union" with holiday spirit
The ladies of the International Women’s Board (IWB) of The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation brought their holiday cheer to the UTPA Student Union on Tuesday, Nov. 27. IWB decorated three holiday trees at the Student Union for all students and visitors to enjoy.

Donate a toy; get your parking ticket removed through Dec. 10
Now through Dec. 10, The University of Texas-Pan American Police Department will be trading parking tickets for new and unwrapped toys.


T. Edward Mercer, longtime UTPA administrator, dies at age 73
Former UTPA administrator T. Edward Mercer , who served as The University of Texas-Pan American's first vice president for Institutional Advancement and helped to build from the ground up the UTPA Foundation and an endowment fund of more than $30 million upon his retirement in 1999, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25 after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.

Student Union hosts annual Turkey Bowling contest
Student, staff and faculty at The University of Texas-Pan American participated in the annual Turkey Bowling event at the Student Union east patio Tuesday, Nov. 20. During the event, hosted by the Student Union, the UTPA community paid $1 to knock down up to five two-liter soda bottles using a frozen turkey.

Dr. Chad Richardson, professor in the Department of Sociology at The University Texas-Pan American, was honored Nov. 6 with The University of Texas System's 2007 Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Teaching.

David B. Carren, the newest addition to the theatre-television-film program at The University of Texas Pan American, just sold his original screenplay, "Black," to a professional production company.

UTPA faculty member to publish poem in national newspaper column
Dr. Steven Schneider, professor of English and director of New Programs and Special Projects in the College of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas-Pan American, will have his poem “Chanukah Lights Tonight” published Nov. 29 in Ted Kooser’s weekly column, "American Life in Poetry."

UTPA to host Tuition and Fee Forums Nov. 13
The University of Texas-Pan American will be holding Tuition and Fee Forums Tuesday, Nov. 13 at noon and 6:30 p.m. to present proposals for increases in fees and designated tuition for the next two academic years at the University.

UTPA and Edinburg Boys & Girls Club students connect at Oct. 27 Make a Difference Day project
When 200 students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg-Rio Grande Valley joined more than 150 student and staff volunteers from The University of Texas-Pan American, the result was a Make a Difference Day event that was a fun learning experience for all.


International Week 2007 goes “green”
International Week 2007 at The University of Texas-Pan American will be “going green” this year as experts, educators and environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. come to the campus Nov. 12-16 to discuss what is happening to the planet and what can be done to save it.
