HESTEC Career Expo attracts record number of participants
With résumé in hand and dressed to impress, more than 2,000 students from across the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas had a chance to meet with representatives from 82 corporations, businesses, and government organizations at this year’s College Students Career Expo Sept. 29. The expo is part of Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week at The University of Texas-Pan American.

Mothers and Daughters attend HESTEC Latinas Day
The important role of a mothers in helping pave a bright future for their daughters was in full bloom Sept. 27 at the third day – Latinas Day – of the fifth annual Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week at The University of Texas-Pan American.


NASA’s Mateu honored with UTPA’s Latina Pioneer Award
Dr. Milagros Mateu, university program manager at NASA, was awarded The University of Texas-Pan American’s HESTEC Latina Pioneer Award, Sept. 27, for her outstanding achievement in contributing to the advancement of Latina education throughout the nation.

The Office of International Programs at The University of Texas-Pan American will host Professor Atul Tandan, director of the Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA) in Ahmedabad, India, Sept. 26-29.


UTPA faculty participate in faculty exchange with Ocean University in China
Two faculty members at The University of Texas-Pan American – Dr. Hugo Mejias, associate professor, Department of Modern Languages and Literature and Dr. Pamela Anderson-Mejias, associate professor, Department of English – have recently departed to China to participate in a faculty exchange program at Ocean University in Qingdao during the fall 2006 and spring 2007 semesters.
