AT&T supports UTPA with more than $330,000 in grants and donations
Officials at The University of Texas-Pan American got a wonderful welcome to the 2006 fall semester with the announcement of a combined contribution of more than $330,000 in grants and scholarships to the University and related organizations from the AT&T Foundation and AT&T Texas Aug. 25.

Pre-HESTEC event helps entering freshmen prepare for college
With Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week a month away, The University of Texas-Pan American held a pre-HESTEC event – Journey to College – for recent high school graduates, Aug. 14, preparing to enter college as freshman at UTPA or other colleges across the nation.

High school interns conduct research at UTPA
At the age of 17, Amanda Rae Flores may become a published author thanks to The University of Texas-Pan American and the 2006 High School Summer Science Interns program. The program, which was designed to increase awareness and interest in science-related fields in the Rio Grande Valley, was organized by the Hispanic Health Research Center/Community Advisory Board (HHRC/CAB).

Summer commencement marks end of 2005-2006 academic year
The University of Texas-Pan American bid farewell to its last group of graduates for the 2005-2006 academic year Saturday, Aug. 19 at the UTPA Fieldhouse, during its first summer commencement ceremonies in more than 14 years.

Temporary parking lot opened to assist students during start of semester
As the fall semester approaches, students at The University of Texas-Pan American who need to access offices in the Student Services Building (SSB) to make final preparations for classes will be allowed to park in lot A1 Aug. 21-Sept. 12.

Upward Bound assists students with college preparation
The Upward Bound (UB) Program at The University of Texas-Pan American recently ended its 34th year of providing services to Rio Grande Valley high school students in an effort to encourage and prepare them to attend and be successful in college following high school graduation.


RGV science teachers participate in interactive classroom course
This summer The University of Texas-Pan American hosted a program which allowed Rio Grande Valley teachers the opportunity to learn through interactive, live video courses instructed by top scientists at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC).

Science Bowl team from San Benito High School awarded laptop computers at UTPA
The University of Texas-Pan American awarded laptop computers July 26 to each member of the San Benito High School team who won the first National Science Bowl® regional competition hosted by UTPA in February.
