Oracle 24/7 Town Hall Meetings scheduled for UTPA employees
With The University of Texas-Pan American’s customized suite of Oracle applications – dubbed Oracle 24/7 – scheduled to go live Sept. 1, UTPA’s Division of Information Technology, will be hosting several Town Hall Meetings to familiarize the employees with the new program.


Sale appointed provost/vice president for Academic Affairs
After a four-month search, The University of Texas-Pan American announced the appointment of Dr. Paul Sale as the University’s provost/vice president for Academic Affairs. He was greeted and serenaded by the UTPA Mariachi who offered a lively South Texas welcome before the press conference Monday, July 24.

Valley teachers participate in Advanced Placement Summer Institutes
The University of Texas-Pan American, in cooperation with the College Board have put together 30 intensive five-day training courses for local, state and national teachers who have taught or will teach Pre-AP or AP level classes in their respective schools. The 2006 Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) trains participants in a variety of advanced courses to prepare them to teach their students new and innovative ways of learning.

Guerra named new College of Arts and Humanities dean
Dr. Dahlia Guerra, chair of the Department of Music for The University of Texas-Pan American, was appointed the new dean of the College of Arts and Humanities July 19.

Student publication Panorama totals 23 awards for 2004-2005 issue
Panorama, the magazine-style yearbook of The University of Texas-Pan American, now boasts 23 awards for last year’s issue, 14 of which were received at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) convention in San Antonio.

UTPA Night scheduled at Minute Maid Park July 28
The University of Texas-Pan American Alumni Association is planning an exciting trip to see a Houston Astros game July 28 at Minute Maid Park that includes a private networking, photo/autograph reception with UT Pan American alumni – Houston Astros Pitching Coach Jim Hickey and Valente Rodriguez, actor on the ABC sitcom “George Lopez.”


UTPA and STC sign articulation agreement to benefit education majors
Students who complete their associate’s degrees in teaching at South Texas College (STC) will now have a smoother transition when they transfer to The University of Texas-Pan American to finish their bachelor’s degrees in interdisciplinary studies after the two institutions signed an articulation agreement June 30.

Valley high school and middle school students participate in summer camps at UTPA
By the end of the summer, the Valley Outreach Center (VOC) will have organized 26 camps and seen more than 600 high school and middle school students participate in academic camps, which are held at The University of Texas-Pan American.

Creative Writing Institute at UTPA July 12-18 features prominent national author
The University of Texas-Pan American English department will sponsor its fourth annual Creative Writing Institute July 12-18. This year for the first time the institute will feature the genre of creative nonfiction as well as poetry and fiction.
