New UTPAdvantage program guarantees free tuition and fees
Rebekah Sepulveda, a junior majoring in communication studies at The University of Texas-Pan American, will now be able to spend more time studying and less time working to pay for her education due to a new tuition initiative – UTPAdvantage – that will guarantee free tuition and fees to eligible students whose families earn $25,000 or less a year.

UTPA’s Dr. Ana Maria Rodriguez named Academic Fellow by The University of Texas System
The University of Texas System Office of Academic Affairs has announced the appointment of Dr. Ana Maria Rodriguez, newly named senior vice provost for Undergraduate Studies, Academic Assessment, and Retention at The University of Texas-Pan American, as its first Academic Fellow to work on a new initiative to enhance faculty leadership development within the UT System.

Provost announces changes in UTPA Office of Academic Affairs
Dr. Paul Sale, provost/vice president for Academic Affairs at The University of Texas-Pan American, recently announced several personnel classification changes in his division to further advance the University’s transformation into the premier learner-centered research institution in South Texas.

UTPA leader to attend Dec. 7 NASA space shuttle launch
The countdown is on for NASA’s first nighttime shuttle launch since 2002, and Dr. Blandina Cárdenas, The University of Texas-Pan American president, will be one of several VIPs invited by the space organization to view the live event Dec. 7 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Award-winning UTPA Mariachi and Mariachi Femenil to perform concerts
The Department of Music at The University of Texas-Pan American presents the UTPA Mariachi and the UTPA Mariachi Femenil in “A Celebration of Mexican Folk Music” Saturday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 at 3 p.m. All concerts will take place at the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium.

University Theatre presents children's holiday production
The University Theatre will present a special children’s holiday production, "Golden Cobwebs," written by senior student Marlene Galvan and faculty member Brian Warren Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre.


UTPA attends criminological symposium in Reynosa
Criminal justice faculty at The University of Texas-Pan American recently participated in the Simposio Internacional de Crimonología at La Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), Mexico.
