The 35th Annual Student Art Show opens Thursday, May 5 at the Charles and Dorothy Clark Gallery of The University of Texas-Pan American.


Edinburg Rotary Club provides additional support for UTPA scholarships
The Edinburg Rotary Club has recently added $10,000 to the Edinburg Rotary Club Endowment Scholarship which was initially established in June 1993 to provide scholarships to area students attending The University of Texas-Pan American.

The spring 2005 strategic planning meeting for the 2006 Minority Serving Institutions Research Partnerships (MSIRP) Conference was held recently on the campus of The University of Texas-Pan American. The 2006 conference will be held Feb 2-4 at UTPA.

XVI International Symposium on Modern Languages celebrates the border
Students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas-Pan American had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with artists, writers and cultural critics from the United States and Mexico and learn new creative perspectives on life along the border during the XVI International Symposium on Modern Languages held on campus April 14-16.

UTPA celebrates National Public Health Week

Assistive Technology Symposium to be held April 26-27 at UTPA
An Assistive Technology (AT) Symposium for employers in the Rio Grande Valley will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesday, April 27, 8 a.m.-noon at The University of Texas-Pan American Ballroom.


UTPA awarded an additional $3.2 million for TEXAS Grant program
Ramiro Villanueva was ecstatic to find out he would be receiving financial assistance this semester through his admittance into the Toward Excellence, Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant program, which recently awarded The University of Texas-Pan American an additional $3.2 million grant to assist students with financial needs, increasing its total allocation to $15.2 million this year.


"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" to open at University Theatre
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest," the stage version, will come to life at the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre at The University of Texas-Pan American April 27-May 1.

Sigma Delta Pi chapter inducts first members
The first members of the newly reactivated Sigma Delta Pi chapter at The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Modern Languages and Literature were inducted in a ceremony held at the UTPA Student Union Sage Room April 5.


UTPA to host Radiological Emergency Responder Training
The University of Texas-Pan American, in conjunction with the Texas Department of State Health Services Community Preparedness Program, will host a Radiological Emergency Preparedness class on Thursday, May 5 at the UTPA Department of Environmental Health and Safety training room from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

UTPA announces Valley Heroes Memorial Scholarship, opens memorial exhibit
Proud salutes, teary remembrances and heartfelt stories of bravery filled The University of Texas-Pan American Visitors Center April 12. More than 200 people – many relatives – of the 16 fallen Rio Grande Valley soldiers and Marines gathered for an emotional ceremony to celebrate the creation of the UTPA Valley Heroes Memorial Scholarship and the opening of an exhibit to honor their sacrifice.


IWB sponsors luncheon for UTPA study abroad students

The Women’s Athletics Fundraisers (WAF) group at The University of Texas-Pan American was honored during a Lady Bronc basketball game for their fundraising efforts on behalf of the Lady Bronc women athletes.


Recent speaker at UTPA wins Pulitzer Prize in poetry
U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, who spoke to students, staff, faculty and members of the community Feb. 3, 2005 on The University of Texas-Pan American campus, won the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry April 4.

Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs to speak at UTPA April 14
One of Mexico’s leading government officials, Dr. Luis Ernesto Derbez Bautista, secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, will visit the campus of The University of Texas-Pan American Thursday, April 14 as part of UTPA’s annual weeklong celebration – Pan American Days held April 11-15. The equivalent of the Secretary of State in the United States, Derbez will speak to students, faculty and the community at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Theater on “Perspectives on Mexico – U.S. Relations.”

In honor of Women’s History Month, The University of Texas-Pan American held a series of events in March to commemorate and recognize the role of women in transforming culture, history and politics in America.


UTPA College of Business Administration to host first video workshop
The College of Business Administration at The University of Texas-Pan American will be holding its first video workshop exhibition and analysis focused on “Capturing Consumption” Saturday, April 9 in the COBA Building, Room 110. The event, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with lunch provided, will feature short videos directed by Ph.D. students in the international business program.
