Former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III will headline the annual Outstanding Leadership Series hosted by The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation April 7.

The first Hispanic to serve as president of the Texas Bar Association, Eduardo Robert Rodriguez, visited The University of Texas-Pan American to speak to members of the Pre-Law Society March 22 at the Social and Behavioral Science Building.

Boeing videoconference at UTPA attracts Valley students
In its continuing collaboration with The University of Texas-Pan American to interest and support South Texas students in the fields of science, engineering, mathematics and technology, The Boeing Company presented its second annual live videoconferencing event from its Houston facility to more than 250 area students Feb. 25 in the UTPA Engineering Building.


The Boeing Company presents $50,000 check to UTPA
On Feb. 25, engineering senior design students at The University of Texas-Pan American gathered to help receive a $50,000 check from The Boeing Company to support the Boeing Scholars Program at the University.


MathCounts competition held at UTPA for Valley middle school students

Top executives from Texas Instruments visit UTPA
The University of Texas-Pan American welcomed top executives from Texas Instruments Feb. 15-16 and discussed innovative collaborations between both organizations including teacher preparation in mathematics and continued support of Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week.

Communication students from The University of Texas-Pan American took top honors in several categories at the Valley Advertising Federation’s (VAF) annual ADDY® Awards ceremony Feb. 19, which honored the best advertisers in the area.

Valley students to compete Mar. 23 in Economics Challenge at UTPA
The Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team at The University of Texas - Pan American in partnership with the Neuhaus Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Education (NCEEE) will host the first Economics Challenge competition for high school students in the Rio Grande Valley. The competition will take place on March 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UTPA Ballroom.


Heavier course loads equal savings for UTPA students
Students at The University of Texas-Pan American now have the opportunity to save money by taking more than 14 hours each semester. Through tuition deregulation adopted by the 78th State Legislative session, UTPA has instituted a discount on tuition and mandatory fees in the form of a cap at 14 semester hours.

With new admissions requirements on the horizon, The University of Texas-Pan American recently created a new department — the Office of Undergraduate Admissions —that will deal exclusively with undergraduate admissions.
