Texas Instruments hosts HESTEC Latina Day

Orientation sessions help UTPA newcomers
Nilsa Guajardo, orientation coordinator at The University of Texas-Pan American, can now breathe a sigh of relief. With the first day of classes August 26, her mission of organizing and conducting 24 orientation sessions – 16 for entering freshmen and eight for new incoming transfer students – during the summer for the fall 2004 semester was successfully completed.

UTPA collaborates in addiction recovery conference and rally Sept.17-18
The University of Texas-Pan American Addiction Studies Project in partnership with the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA)-Edinburg, RGV Council Inc., the Hidalgo County Health Department and the UTPA Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program will host a conference and rally Sept. 17-18 in observance of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) 15th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.


UTPA hosts award-winning historian Sept. 16
Dr. Guadalupe San Miguel Jr., award-winning historian and author on Mexican-American and educational history, will present a public lecture on his book “Contested Policy: The Rise and Fall of Federal Bilingual Education in the United States, 1960-2001,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16 in the Student Union Theater.

Parking relief on the way for UTPA students
Due to the increase in enrollment at The University of Texas-Pan American this semester, administrators and staff are working feverishly to develop more student parking spaces, as well as long-term parking solutions.
