UTPA Dance Ensemble performs the “Orange Peel Piñata” to captivated audiences
The University of Texas-Pan American’s Dance ensemble performed modern dance in its spring concert and featured an original choreographed dance “The Orange Peel Piñata.” Doug Elkins, British hip-hop choreographer and visiting artist, designed the piece with Folkloric dance movements native to the Valley and intertwined with Brazilian martial arts and Flamenco phrases.

The Fifth Annual UTPA Partners in Excellence Banquet honors corporate recruiters
Faculty and staff at The University of Texas-Pan American recently joined the Career Placement Services office in honoring students and corporate recruiters at the Fifth Annual Partners in Excellence Banquet. The banquet recognized employer support and student participation in internship programs.


UTPA and Laredo Community College sign a dual admissions agreement
Administrators of The University of Texas-Pan American recently met with Laredo Community College (LCC) officials to sign a dual admissions agreement that allows LCC students to transfer to UTPA without losing credits and affords them a practical option to a four-year institution.

Boeing supports UTPA science and engineering students in many ways
As part of a partnership that has extended more than 10 years with The University of Texas-Pan American, The Boeing Company presented the College of Science and Engineering with a $50,000 check March 2 for the UTPA/Boeing Scholars program.

UTPA College of Business kicks off “Best of the Border Series”
Almost 100 business students and faculty members attended the first gathering of “The Best of the Border Lecture Series” Tuesday, March 2 at The University of Texas-Pan American.


UTPA’s first ever minimester begins in May
For the first time in its history, The University of Texas-Pan American will be offering a miniterm or minimester following the end of the spring 2004 semester. Presented by Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, and Dr. John Edwards, vice president for Enrollment and Student Services, the minimester plan and budget recently received administrative approval and will run for three weeks – May 10-27.


Villas espouses prevention in Healthy Living Lecture Series kick off
Bringing a powerful message of the importance of self responsibility and prevention when it comes to health, Dr. Paul Villas, executive director of the Border Health Office at The University of Texas-Pan American, kicked off his office’s Healthy Living Lecture Series February 10. The lecture series was developed as part of the UTPA Provost’s Initiative on Campus Wellness, started in February, called “Step Up to Your Health.”
