The University of Texas-Pan American Department of English will be hosting a New Faculty Research Colloquium Series starting Thursday, March 4 at the UTPA Library, Room 310 from Noon-1 p.m.

MMC Foundation donates $25,000 to UTPA Nursing Program
The McAllen Medical Center Foundation has decided to do their part and help alleviate the shortage of medical professionals in the Rio Grande Valley by donating $25,000 to The University of Texas-Pan American/ Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) Program.

A recent visit to The University of Texas-Pan American by Ford Motor Company executives, including the president of the Ford Motor Company Fund, served to strengthen current relationships and foster new ones between the University and one of the world’s major auto makers.

University Theatre performs Julius Caesar, Shakespeare’s version of The Sopranos
If you like “The Sopranos” on HBO, then William Shakespeare's “Julius Caesar” at The University of Texas-Pan American Theatre should be a hit with you. The performance runs February 25-29 at the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre.


UTPA spring enrollment increases by seven percent
Enrollment at The University of Texas-Pan American continues to rise as official numbers provided by the Office of Admissions and Records have indicated a seven percent increase for the 2004 spring semester from last year.


UTPA Folkloric Dance Company continues ALEGRIA 2003-2004 Concert series
The University of Texas-Pan American Folkloric Dance Company will continue its annual performance series of ALEGRIA 2003-2004 at the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium February 13, 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 14-15, 2 p.m.; Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m.; and Feb. 21-22, 2 p.m.


UTPA librarians’ hearts belong to each other and the University
U.S. humorist and author Sam Levenson once said that “love at first sight is easy to understand; it's when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle.” In the case of The University of Texas-Pan American librarians George and Virginia Gause the years of looking at each other have included 31 years of working together as well.

Former President George H.W. Bush shares stories of his life in politics, his family and a few words of wisdom with more than 1,000 Rio Grande Valley students during The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation Outstanding Leadership Series Feb. 5 at the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium.

UTPA initiates a wellness program on campus.
The University of Texas-Pan American’s Border Health Office implements a wellness program on campus called “Step Up To Your Health” to encourage faculty and staff to become more physically fit. The comprehensive program includes such features as marked walking paths, e-mail newsletters with tips for healthy living and recipes, pamphlets illustrating exercises that can be done at the desk and a lecture series.
