UTPA State Employee Charitable Campaign garners awards
The University of Texas-Pan American was awarded two recognitions Friday, Nov. 19 by the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). UTPA won both the Service Award, given to the University for “Continuous Commitment for the Success” of the SECC since 1993 and the “Higher Education Shining Star” trophy for the greatest increase from last year in contributions by a Rio Grande Valley higher education institution, including South Texas College, The University of Texas at Brownsville-Texas Southmost College, and Texas State Technical College.

On Friday, Dec. 3, a cool rain failed to dampen the warm spirit at the historic investiture of Dr. Blandina Cárdenas as the seventh president of The University of Texas-Pan American.

UTPA engineering students take first place at national competition
A team of three female engineering students at The University of Texas-Pan American recently won first place at the 2004 Student Manufacturing Design Competition sponsored by the Manufacturing Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Community celebrates upcoming presidential investiture
The City of McAllen, Hidalgo County Judge Ramón Garcia, the Region One Education Service Center and Time Warner partnered to host a reception Monday, Nov. 29 to begin The University of Texas-Pan American’s weeklong presidential investiture events with an evening celebration honoring Cárdenas. Rio Grande Valley superintendents, elected officials, Valley educators and school board members celebrated at the McAllen Civic Center. Pictured above is Cárdenas (standing) among other attendees at the reception.
