The University of Texas-Pan American received the Chancellor’s Best Practices and Innovations Award in the area of external communications at the UT System Seminar Nov. 9 in Austin. The award, presented to the Division of External Affairs by UT System Chancellor Mark G. Yudof, was for UTPA’s annual community outreach event – Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week.
To officially recognize the completion of the recently renovated College of Education buildings, The University of Texas-Pan American administrators, faculty and students celebrated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 19 in the Education Complex courtyard.

The University of Texas-Pan American Folkloric Dance Company will begin its annual concert series of ALEGRIA 2004-2005, a 35th Anniversary Celebration, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. The concert series will continue on Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 12-13 at 2 p.m.; Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m., and Feb. 19-20 at 2 p.m.
Dr. Blandina Cárdenas will be officially installed as the seventh president of The University of Texas-Pan American in a formal ceremony – investiture – Dec. 3 in which she will be endowed with the powers and responsibilities of the office.
The College of Education at The University of Texas-Pan American started a weeklong venue of activities Tuesday, Nov. 16 with a noon assembly in the fountain area for undergraduate students featuring a ribbon cutting of the new Student Lounge/Meeting Room located in Building B, Room 2.510L of the newly renovated Education buildings.

The University of Texas-Pan American announced a new partnership between UTPA and State Farm Companies Foundation at a press conference Oct. 26. State Farm presented a $50,000 grant to the University and pledged a three-year partnership and sponsorship for Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week.
President of The University of Texas-Pan American Dr. Blandina Cárdenas was recently named to the 2004 Hispanic Business magazine list of “100 Most Influential Hispanics.”
The College of Education at The University of Texas-Pan American is establishing the Robert (Bob) Reeve Endowed Scholarship for Science Education. The scholarship will provide money for teachers to attend UTPA to earn a master’s in secondary education.

The National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) and The University of Texas-Pan American History Department will jointly host the Tejas Foco Regional Conference at UTPA Nov. 12-13 in various locations of the Student Union.
