University gives back to community during “UTPA Day” at MIM

State Rep. “Kino” Flores discusses opportunities for veterans at UTPA
State Rep. Ismael “Kino” Flores does not consider himself the voice of Rio Grande Valley veterans in Austin, but many believe he should be because of his passion for making sure Valley veterans receive the benefits they have earned.

Flores spoke to a group of Valley veterans Wednesday, Feb. 20 about programs and business opportunities available to them during a roundtable business forum at The University of Texas-Pan American.


Walt Disney offers UTPA students internship opportunity
Walt Disney World is coming to recruit University students for internships. A presentation with a Walt Disney World College Program recruiter is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Engineering Building Auditorium, Room 1.300.

UTPA, in partnership with the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation (HENAAC), announced plans for Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week (HESTEC), Oct. 12-19, 2002, during a news conference Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the International Trade and Technology Building.

New technological service available for deaf at UTPA
A trial run on the latest communication devices for deaf callers who know American Sign Language and wish to use a telephone was Tuesday, Feb. 12 at The University of Texas-Pan American Library. A free demonstration of this new technology will be Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 1-3 p.m. in the Library, Room 309.


Nursing student receives CWCMA-NC scholarship
Lorraine Galvan, a nursing student in the BSN program at The University of Texas-Pan American, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Cameron Willacy County Medical Alliance-Northern Chapter (CWCMA-NC).
