German students study U.S. business, culture at UT Pan American in February
Twelve students from the business school at Fachhochschule Nordostniedersachsen, a university in Lüneburg, Germany, are at The University of Texas-Pan American through Feb. 24 studying U.S. and international business and culture in a three-week seminar under a standing exchange program UT Pan American has with the German university.


UTPA art exhibits to feature local artists

Valley high school and college students can get answers to questions about financial assistance and help with filling out an application at the annual Financial Aid Fair hosted by The University of Texas-Pan American Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Ballroom.

UT Pan American announces major new scholarship initiative
Dr. Miguel A. Nevárez, president of The University of Texas-Pan American, on Feb. 4 announced a major new academic scholarship initiative designed to promote academic excellence in the high schools. Nevárez made the announcement to a group of about 100 Valley high school counselors attending a conference at the university.


Microwave link between UT Pan American, Tamaulipas university unites two university systems for first time
A microwave radio link between The University of Texas-Pan American and Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) in Reynosa — and by extension between the entire University of Texas and UAT systems — was inaugurated Feb. 2 with a videoconference between high-ranking officials at a number of sites in Texas and Mexico.


First students expected this fall for new nurse practitioner, criminal justice master's degrees
Two new master's degree programs approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for The University of Texas-Pan American late last month — a master of science in nursing (MSN) program in family nurse practitioner and a master of science (MS) in criminal justice — are expected to admit their first students in fall 1998.
