The University of Texas-Pan American is holding a series of review sessions beginning Nov. 1 for teachers and future teachers who are planning to take the ExCET or teacher certification exam.

The University of Texas-Pan American will hold a Halloween Festival Thursday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Library Plaza on the south side of the University Library.

Dr. Jon Sorensen, associate professor of criminal justice at The University of Texas-Pan American, will give a presentation Wednesday, Nov. 5, at noon at the McAllen Country Club on "Crime Throughout History."

UT Pan American tops South Alabama, 3-0
The Bronc Volleyball team ended Parent's Weekend celebration on a high note as they dropped South Alabama 3-0 (15-6, 15-12, 15-4) in a Sun Belt Conference matchup tonight at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The Broncs improved their record to 12-13 overal and are now 1-7 in conference play.

Gallup announces resignation as UTPA athletic director
Gary Gallup has announced his resignation as athletic director at The University of Texas-Pan American, effective Oct. 31, to become assistant executive director of the Golden Gloves Association of America.

STCC, UT Pan American presidents sign academic partnership agreement
Dr. Shirley A.Reed, president of South Texas Community College, and Dr. Miguel A. Nevárez, president of The University of Texas-Pan American, signed an historic academic partnership agreement Oct. 22 that should prove of significant benefit to area students in helping them complete their college education in the Rio Grande Valley.

New Science Building Dedication Part of 'Celebration of Science' at UTPA
The faculty and staff of The University of Texas-Pan American’s College of Science and Engineering and the Departments of Biology and Chemistry will throw open the doors of the new Science Building to a variety of visiting groups during a special “Celebration of Science” Oct. 20-24. A highlight of the week will be the dedication of the new facility on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock will be the keynote speaker at the ceremonies in Lecture Hall 2.102, which is located in the south wing of the building.


UT Pan American to honor four at 70th anniversary Founders Day
The arts, sciences, business and education will be celebrated Oct. 21 at The University of Texas-Pan American’s Founders Day Dinner 1997, which will commemorate the founding of the institution 70 years ago.This year’s event will also be part of a special week-long “Celebration of Science” that is planned in conjunction with the dedication of the new Science Building at 1 p.m. the same day. Honorees at the 6 p.m. Founders Day reception and dinner in the Science Building courtyard will be: Yvonne Anderson, well-known Valley arts patron and part-time English faculty member at UT Pan American; Dr. Robert W. Feldtman, associate professor of surgery at The University of Texas at Houston Medical School and a 1968 chemistry graduate of Pan American College; Randal B. (Randy) McLelland Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of the Rio Grande Valley Region of Texas Commerce Bank; and Dr. Jerry L. Pulley, long-time professor of education and former acting dean of the College of Education.
