The University of Texas-Pan American opened its 12th annual Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week with a Congressional Dinner Oct. 6 at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The dinner was sponsored by Verizon and Anheuser-Busch/L&F Distributors.
Those who attended heard from sponsors and former students who attended previous HESTEC events who talked about how the weeklong conference inspired them to continue their education beyond high school and pursue careers in fields related to science, technology, education and math (STEM).
They also saw a special video presentation by the University commemorating the longtime support of H-E-B, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary in the Rio Grande Valley.
Attendees were entertained by students from UTPA's Latino Theatre Initiative, who performed its latest production, "Pachanga," a dance comedy. "Pachanga" will be presented soon at the New Orleans Fringe Festival.
