The University of Texas-Pan American Office of Alumni Relations kicked off its celebration of Homecoming Week 2013 with a mixer at its center Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Dozens of alumni and friends of the University gathered to mingle and vie for several prizes available through a balloon drop and other activities.
Local artists and UTPA alumni John Sigrist (BFA '78) and Dale Taylor (BFA '78) also had their artwork on display inside the Alumni Center.
Sigrist, a member of the UTPA Alumni Association Board of Trustees, said events such as these are a great way to reach out to alumni, especially now that the University and the association have the center on Closner Boulevard.
"It gives us a sense of placement and something that we can find as our core headquarters, so we can reach out and start to bring in members," Sigrist said. "Part of what we want to do is promote the alumni association and reach out to the different schools ... this is an opportunity and a venue for us to come and participate and show some support for our particular school."
Taylor said the mixer was the first alumni event he has attended and was happy to reconnect with fellow alumni and display his artwork.
"There's nothing in life worth having unless you can share it," Taylor said.
Homecoming Week 2013 continues with the Viva Las Vegas Alumni Ball on Friday, Feb. 15, as well as the Bronc Madness Tailgate Saturday, Feb. 16 and the 50+ Reunion Brunch on Feb. 17.
