The University of Texas-Pan American President Robert S. Nelsen and Vice President for University Advancement Veronica Gonzales accepted a proclamation from the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court commemorating the University's 85th anniversary during the court's meeting Sept. 18.
Members of the court shared stories about how UT Pan American -- and its earlier incarnations -- enabled them to receive a college education close to home and achieve further success. Nelsen and Gonzales told commissioners about the University's many accomplishments, including how it has graduated more than 70,000 students throughout the past eight decades.
The county also provided a cake and coffee to celebrate UT Pan American's birthday with everyone who attended the meeting.
