ExxonMobil Corp. honors top STEM teachers at HESTEC Educators Day

The University of Texas-Pan American and ExxonMobil Corp. awarded the UTPA HESTEC ExxonMobil Educator Day 2012 Award to four middle school teachers who were chosen by their peers as the best in their field in preparing students for higher education and successful careers.

The finalists, two science and two math teachers, were chosen out of 20 candidates.

The winners are Feliberto De Anda (BS '04, kinesiology), Central Middle School, Weslaco ISD, eighth-grade science teacher; Daniel Lopez (BIS '05, middle school mathematics education; MS '11, mathematics education), Grulla Middle School, Rio Grande City CISD, eighth-grade math teacher; Bradley Brewer, Kennedy Middle School, PSJA ISD, seventh- and eighth-grade math teacher; and Joanna Acosta (BS '10, biology), La Villa Middle School, La Villa ISD, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher.

Each winner also received an iPad and a trip to a national conference in their respective specialties.
