Update 4:55 p.m.: The Science Building will remain closed until noon Tuesday, Feb. 7. All morning classes held in the Science Building are cancelled. Updated Information regarding afternoon classes will be posted by 9 a.m.
Update 2:17 p.m.: The University of Texas-Pan American's Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) is making staff available to the University community in light of Monday's incident.
Update 11:28 a.m.: UTPA Police said construction workers found the body before 8 a.m. and that the woman appeared to be in her early 20s.
Update 10:40 a.m.: The Science Building Complex has officially been closed for the remainder of the day. Classes and access to offices will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
The University of Texas-Pan American Police Department and other law enforcement officials are investigating a suspicious death of an adult female whose body was found near an external staircase of the Science Building on campus.
Identification of the woman, whose body was discovered shortly before 8 a.m. today, is pending.
There is no imminent danger to the University community and the investigation has been contained to the Science Building.
The University issued campus alerts to students, faculty, and staff. The Science Building has been evacuated until further notice. All classes scheduled today in the Science Building have been cancelled.
Operations at other campus facilities remain normal. Additional information will be made available as the investigation continues.
