The University of Texas-Pan American invites all souls to celebrate its 45th annual Carnival of the Great Pumpkin on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 6-10 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse. More than 4,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is free and open to the UTPA community and public.
"This event is great for families because it provides a fun and safe environment for children," said Marisela Gonzalez, UTPA assistant director for the office of student development.
The carnival made its debut in 1966 and has been a yearly tradition ever since. A variety of activities will be held for families such as a costume contest for cash prizes, wrap your mummy challenge, and a haunted house. There will also be inflatable jumps for the young trick-or-treaters. A DJ will provide musical entertainment throughout the night.
Over 40 student organizations also will have food available for sale and host various carnival games for the public.
"This event is a fundraising opportunity for student organizations from UTPA," Gonzalez said. "The money they collect from this event funds their conferences and other needs the organization has throughout the year."
Bring the kids for a safe and ghostly good time! Free parking is available adjacent to the Fieldhouse.
