The UTPA Distinguished Speakers Series (DSS) is offering University students the chance of a lifetime - the opportunity to meet legendary poet and author Dr. Maya Angelou, Monday, Oct. 24.
Angelou will be the first speaker of the series that brings prominent speakers to campus each year. DSS will continue on Feb. 29, 2012 with Pulitzer Prize-winning author and foreign affairs columnist for the New York Times Thomas L. Friedman and will conclude April 3, 2012 with an evening featuring longtime, Emmy-winning TV host Larry King.
So what do you have to do to meet Angelou? Easy, just enter the essay contest open to currently enrolled UTPA students. In 500 words or less, students must write about one of Angelou's works and discuss how it has connected them to the human experience.
Entries must be typed and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. An official entry form must accompany the essay, which can be downloaded here.
For more information, call (956) 665-7989. No late entries will be accepted.
