Nearly 175 school district personnel from across South Texas attended the 10th annual Counselor Update event Oct. 7 at The University of Texas-Pan American. Counselors and other school district staff members heard from Dr. Magdalena Hinojosa, senior associate vice president for Enrollment Services at UTPA, who gave them an overview of enrollment, retention and graduation statistics over the last five years at UTPA for students attending the University from their respective districts. Dennis McMillan, associate vice president for Student Affairs, provided an update on the recent 82nd legislative session and its impact on students. During three break-out sessions conducted by UTPA staff, attendees learned the latest information on TSI (Texas Success Initiative) and academic advising; admissions, Texas residency, orientation and concurrent enrollment; and financial aid and scholarships. An update on the ACT college entrance exam was also held.
