Anyone who is interested in learning about job opportunities with the federal government is invited to attend the Second Annual Federal Opportunities Day April 8th at The University of Texas-Pan American.
"We recognize that many people in the Rio Grande Valley are struggling to find jobs and we have asked federal agencies to come to UTPA and present their opportunities to our community," said Nick Weimer, CAE Director.
Over 10 federal government agencies are scheduled to be at the event, including the U.S. Army, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigations, General Services Agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Representatives from non-government organizations will also be present, such as the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
The event will also feature two keynote speakers - John Adams, Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Retired), and Ben Reyna, former Director of the U.S. Marshals Service. Additionally, professionals and experts will be presenting on the fields of forensics and intelligence.
Besides presenting federal government internship, scholarship and job opportunities, staff from UTPA Career Services will hold workshops on building strong resumes and excelling at the interview process.
"It is important that our students are prepared to rise above their competition in the hiring process. This conference aims to educate Valley students on how to distinguish themselves from their peers when pursuing careers in government," Weimer said.
