Students at The University of Texas-Pan American had the opportunity to take a trip around the world of sorts during the Office of International Program's (OIP) Study Abroad Fair Feb. 22. About 300 students attended the event held at the UTPA Chapel lawn where they received information on the University's more than 18 study abroad programs - including those in Peru, Spain, Thailand, England, Italy, France and Morocco - as well as scholarships and other financial aid. "The Office of International Programs wants to give students the opportunity to take courses around the world and learn from different professors," said Dr. Yvonne Quintanilla, the office's director. Study abroad programs are offered in the fall, spring and summer semesters, as well as during the University's minimesters. Among the new courses being offered in the study abroad programs are a chemistry class in China, an English course in France, and a theater course in London. The University will also send for the first time three students to Argentina for its Latin American studies minor program, Quintanilla said. UTPA students interested in studying overseas can also take English and management courses in Salamanca, Spain, which is the University's longest-running program, Quintanilla said. The deadline for students to apply to study abroad programs for the upcoming minimester and Summer I is March 11, and the deadline to apply for the International Education Fee Scholarship is March 15.
