David Gergen, journalist and political analyst, was The University of Texas-Pan American's latest Distinguished Speaker. Gergen, who served as an adviser to four former presidents, presented "Eyewitness to Power: Leadership in America" Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium. Gergen is the senior political analyst for CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 and Situation Room, as well as editor-at-large for U.S. News & World Report. He also is a professor of public service at the Harvard Kennedy School and director of its Center for Public Leadership. The Distinguished Speakers Series, now in its seventh year, is underwritten by student fees as recommended by the Student Affairs Advisory Committee, and receives support from the Student Union and other University departments. The next Distinguished Speaker is Neil de Grasse Tyson, astrophysicist and PBS host of NOVA ScienceNOW, who will present "Ten Things You Need to Know about the Universe" March 28.
