College students and graduates worried about the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) can now enroll in a MCAT Prep Course offered locally for a fraction of the cost of the high-priced alternatives.

The Office of Continuing Education at The University of Texas-Pan American has recently added the MCAT Prep Course to its lineup of test preparation courses which includes the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) Prep Course, GRE (Graduate Record Examination) Prep Course, and other professional licensing exam review courses. These courses are designed to serve young adults and adult learners with diverse learning needs.

The MCAT Prep Course being offered during summer months is specifically designed to meet the needs of the college students who are currently preparing for the MCAT in August.

"With 48 hours of classroom instruction, an AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) study guide, and three full-length practice tests, UTPA's MCAT Prep Course promises to be the best value for the money" said Jayshree Bhat, coordinator for Continuing Education at UTPA.

The course covers subject areas such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, general chemistry, physics, biology and verbal reasoning. The instructors are all experienced UTPA professors with expertise in their respective areas of MCAT preparation.

For the GRE and SAT, The Office of Continuing Education has teamed up with Knowsys Test Prep LLC to offer the courses. Bhat said that participants in the SAT Prep Course have seen an average increase of 250 in their scores as a result of enrolling in the course. Participants also indicated that they were highly satisfied with the course materials and instruction.

The next two SAT Prep Courses start on June 15 and July 8. The course includes 33 hours of instruction and practice tests, and spread out over three weeks with convenient schedules. After each practice test, students receive Personalized Score Reports that identify their strengths and weaknesses.

The next GRE Prep Course begins May 17. Additionally, the Office of Continuing Education will be offering master and bachelor's level Social Work Exam Review Session on May 6 and May 7. These classes have limited class size and admission is on a first-come first-served basis.

All of the programs and courses offered by Office of Continuing Education are open to the general public and admission to the university is not a requirement to enroll in these classes.
